THE scale of "mindless" damage caused to Gresford residents' cars over the weekend is "unprecedented," it has been said.
North Wales Police launched an appeal following the numerous incidents of damage - which took place overnight between Saturday and Sunday.
The force said reports had been made in Narrow Lane, Pant Lane and surrounding streets.
Gresford East/West Councillor Jeremy Kent told the Leader: "This was absolutely mindless destruction and it was not nice for people to wake up to on a Sunday morning.
"I have been working with the Wrexham Rural Inspector and would reassure residents that this isn't just going to be left - it is being taken seriously.
"The final total is around 15 cars and we are looking to catch the people responsible.
"I've never known vandalism on this sheer scale before - it's unprecedented.
"Gresford is a nice quiet village nine times out of ten, so this came as a shock to people."
Pant Lane resident Kevin Bailey told the Leader on Monday that the crimes were "heart-breaking," and he expressed his concern for pensioners living in the village
Cllr Kent encouraged those who have information about the incidents to come forward, adding: "If anyone has been caught up in this, make sure it's reported.
"And anyone who has any CCTV footage that might be helpful, please take a look through it from Saturday night to Sunday morning.
"Let the police know if there is something which may help."
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "We are interested in obtaining any CCTV or photos of any persons in the area from midnight to 6am.
"The incidents have created interest on social media so if anyone has posted information on social media rather than contact the police please make us aware of what you know.
"If you have any CCTV or photos of any potential suspect please, or have any information that you feel could be of assistance, contact PC 2403 Adam Griffiths at adam.griffiths@northwales.police.uk"
