A TEENAGER from Flintshire hosted successful netball tournament for mental health charity.

14-year-old Izzy Lancelott had the idea to host a charity netball tournament for the mental health charity 'Mind' as she strongly believes that playing sports improves mental health and wellbeing.

The Leader:

As an under 15's Chester Netball Club player and weekly umpire for the L4Y League, Izzy, who attends Connah's Quay High, felt the connection relating to sport and mental wellbeing related to a lot of players that she meets on a weekly basis.

With 10 teams entered from Connah's Quay, Holywell, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Wrexham and Llangollen for a glow up neon themed tournament, the turn out to support the girls was amazing.

The teams were also supported by local companies as well as their community.

Counsellor Richardson paid for the court hire fees due to the teams having Golftyn players involced and it being hosted in his ward at Deeside College.

A grand total of £1203.50 was raised from generous donations made by the community, family and friends that came together to run the tournament and ensure it was a success. Izzy is hoping to double the total amount with additional match funding.

She said: "It was truly amazing with lots of laughter and plenty of netball."
