The full list of sites in Wales where speed cameras will be in place to monitor the new 20mph speed limit has been revealed.

Wales became one of the first countries in the world, and the first nation in the UK, to lower the default national speed limit on residential roads from 30mph to 20mph last September.

Enforcement on these roads has been paused since the new speed limit was rolled out allowing motorists a "grace period" to get used to the change.

GoSafe - a partnership made up of authorities including the Welsh Government and Wales emergency services - has been helping manage the 20mph change.

An "engagement first" approach was originally taken when it came to drivers caught over the speed limit in 20mph areas. 

But enforcement of the 20mph speed limit on residential roads in Wales is now underway having started on March 18.

A list of "enforcement sites" has been revealed by GoSafe where mobile and fixed speed cameras will be in place to ensure motorists are keeping to the new 20mph speed limit.

Sites where the 20mph speed limit will be enforced are based on where there has been evidence of road safety risk.

GoSafe considers enforcement where communities have raised concerns, collisions have occurred, or in areas where vulnerable road users and vehicles mix for example, near schools.

The "enforcement sites" in North Wales where you will find speed cameras monitoring the new 20mph speed limit are:

There will also be a host of other 20mph speed cameras out and about in different locations each month - a map of which can be found on the GoSafe website.

The map will also show the location of all other fixed, red light, speed on green and average speed cameras active across Wales.

30mph speed limit could be reimplemented in Wales by end of 2024

The speed limit on some roads across Wales could revert back from 20mph to the original 30mph by the end of the year following an announcement by the Welsh Government.

RECOMMENDED READING:

Welsh transport minister, Ken Skates, revealed last month (April 2024) that the government would be revising its guidance to councils on the new 20mph speed limit.

The revised guidance will be published in July 2024, with councils expected to start detailed consultation on changes from September.

This could mean the new 20mph speed limit on some Welsh roads could be changed back to 30mph before the end of 2024.
