An event that has seen a 72-foot rocket appear in Wrexham was opened today (Thursday, September 14).

The UK Space Agency has landed in Wrexham for their "Space for Everyone" tour, which has seen a replica of the Launcher One Rocket call Queens Square home for the next few days,

The event, which sees virtual reality experiences, careers advice from local space professionals, and space-related activities available and free for everyone, will be held from September 14 to September 18.

People are being encouraged to come down and learn more about space while also having some fun and making the most of the event.

It is recommended that people visit in groups, with group tours available with a minimum of 10 people.

The event was opened by Deputy Mayor of Wrexham, Cllr Beryl Blackmore, who was joined by pupils of the Rofft School who were some of the first to enjoy the experience.

Susan Parker-Thomas, the deputy head of the Rofft school, said: “It’s iconic really, it's inspirational for the children. They’re the next generation which I know this project is aimed at and I believe it's going to be very inspirational.

“At the Rofft school we look at careers in particular, all sorts of industries because we believe that makes education purposeful, it gives them a reason why education is important.

“This being in Wrexham is wonderful for Wrexham. I know it's been through quite a few places and for the children to be able to experience all these different things and, most importantly talk to professionals in the space industry, is a wonderful experience.

"Hopefully whatever they're told today will inspire them and perhaps head them on a journey that they didn’t know they’d want to embark on.”
