A PEACEFUL protest is being planned in a Flintshire town where the First Minister will visit this week.

Mark Drakeford is set to visit the Plas Yr Ywen care home in Holywell at around midday tomorrow (Friday, September 15) to see the work that has been done there since it opened in 2021.

Located on the site of a former primary school, the 55-apartment facility offers independent living for people aged 50+ with access to a range of facilities and 24-hour on site care and support.

During the Mr Drakeford's visit, residents, councillors and business owners alike are set to gather outside the care home in protest.

They will be doing so to raise the issue of businesses repeatedly closing in the town due to worries over rising energy costs, rent costs and more.

Protest organiser Daniel Thomas said: "Holywell town's businesses are struggling. Shops are closing one after the other here at the moment.

"People are either shopping online or going out of the area to shop now, it's a real worry.

"We want to make people like Mark Drakeford aware of what is happening not just here, but in towns across north Wales.

"We will be waiting outside the home to hold this peaceful protest with banners. I am getting some posters printed for some of us to hold up with 'Save our Town' on them."

Daniel, whose family runs the Qualities furniture shop in town, added: "Please do come along to show that Holywell will no longer be ignored and that we do have a voice."
