READERS have had their say on what should be done with a Wrexham slag heap.

The Leader has reported over the last week on Operation Gravel - a Wrexham Rural Police initiative focussing on the issue of people riding off-road bikes on the Pandy Slag heap.

A meeting is to be held between Wrexham Council, North Wales Police and ward councillor Pete Howell this week over the future of the site.

In the meantime, readers took to the Leader's Facebook page to have their say on the matter and what should be done with the slag heap.

Blake Alexanda Hayward said: "I think it should be allowed to be for the bikes - at least they are not on the road causing problems."

Reg Greatbanks said: "At least they aren’t robbing and causing harm. Have the place turned into a track."

Julie Hughes said: "They need a place to go to ride them."

Lawrie Skipper said: "Out of the way, enjoying their bikes, not harming anyone? Leave them be," while Daza Squire suggested: "Motocross track."

Lesley Millington Hazelhurst said: "They need a place to go. If they aren’t bothering anyone - good."

Kev Murphy said: "Leave them be you do-gooders trying to stop any enjoyment for kids."

And Duane Taffy Williams said: "It's barren land - slag heaps have been used for bikes and quads for decades. Why make a fuss about it now?"

Wrexham Rural Inspector Matt Subacchi confirmed he had personally been out to the site with Cllr Howell to consult residents about the situation.

He told the Leader regarding the meeting: "I need to understand who owns the land and what is allowed and not allowed - to ensure people are safe and that we provide a service to both the residents and those who want to ride their bikes safely and legally."
