A FAMILY-RUN Flintshire pub has closed its doors and going on the market.

The Ship Inn, in Greenfield, near Holywell, has closed down after 42 years of being open.

The pub, known locally as 'The Gletch', served last orders on Friday night. It has been run by sisters Siobhan and Charlotte Inskip in recent years - having previously been run by their grandad.

The Ship Inn posted on Facebook saying things "haven't been the same since Covid".

The post said: "42 years gives us enough experience to know when it’s time to call time.

"We would like to thank our regular loyal customers who have kept us going and Greenfield FC if it wasn’t for you we would have been closed a lot time ago so thank you."

MORE NEWS:

The Ship has been the host of Greenfield Football Club's committee meetings, post-match refreshments and presentation evenings, as well fundraising and social events.

The club said the news comes as "great loss to the club and community", but placed on record its "sincerest thanks" to Siobhan and Charlotte for their support.

Siobhan added: "I’m so happy I got to own my own pub and I’ve made so many good friends there as well as keep my grandad's legacy going."

On Tripadvisor, it was rated excellent in 90 per cent of its reviews. People described it as a "great pub" and a "hidden gem".
