Work is underway at the former Squire Yorke in Wrexham to turn it into a Hickory’s Smokehouse.
This will be the second Hickory’s to open its doors in Wales, with the first being in Rhos on Sea.
Pub chain Greene King announced they were investing in Hickory’s last year and identified sites it already owns in its estate that would be a perfect fit for Hickory’s, with the Squire Yorke being one of them.
The restaurant is set to open later this year.
John Welsh, Hickory’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to be coming to Wrexham. We’ve welcomed guests from the area to Hickory’s in Chester and Rhos-on-Sea for over 12 years, so we are thrilled to be opening here.
"We cannot wait to introduce the locals to our new home and hopefully convert a whole host of new fans to all things BBQ.”
The work is gathering pace with the strip out being completed, and their ‘Ole Hickory’ smokers are on the way from Missouri, ready to settle right into the heart of the restaurant.
Guests can expect a completely new, open kitchen and Chef’s bar (quite possibly the best seat in the house) and a range of seating from cosy booths to party tables for groups to enjoy.
There will also be a neighbourhood bar area, complete with screens showing popular American and UK sports. Outside the team will be creating a Southern inspired space for all-year round dining and drinking. And younger guests will be able to enjoy their own cinema room and outside play area.

Craig Gibson, general manager, has been getting to know the locals.
He said: “We’ve had such an unbelievably warm welcome from the local community so far and we can’t wait to swing open the doors later this year.”
The chain is one of the leading and most popular authentic BBQ smokehouse restaurant operators in the UK, and currently has 17 restaurants across the Midlands and North West.
Hickory’s original UK site is located 11 miles north of the proposed Wrexham site, at The Groves in Chester after opening its doors back in 2010.
