A WREXHAM resident has celebrated a very special birthday this week featuring a visit from the Deputy Mayor.
Born on September 4, 1923, Mabel Matthias celebrated turning 100-years-old on Monday.
She grew up in Brymbo with her two sisters, May and Irene, who she was very close to, and worked as a secretary for most of her life. Mabel was also married to Ronnie and has a stepson, Malcolm.
Mabel now resides in Meifod Care Home in Rhos, Wrexham, and has done so since October 2021. The staff describe her as "a wonderful lady" and say it is a "privilege to take care of her."
Gemma Jones, Meifod Care Home Manager, said: "Mabel has a great sense of humour and can be very witty.

"She was very happy to receive a card from the King and Queen Consort, received lots of presents and flowers from her family and friends within the home.
"She has enjoyed turning 100 but feels no different to being 21."
Mabel enjoyed travelling, especially to the Isle of Man, and loved to dance in her youth.
The care home arranged the visit by Beryl Blackmore, the Deputy Mayor, who gave Mabel a touching birthday card.
Her family and friends visited and celebrated in the morning and staff celebrated with a party for residents in the afternoon.
