A CRAFT group who designed a postbox topper which was set on fire by vandals have been left "disgusted".
The Leader reported earlier in the week that a police probe was launched after the summer-themed topper in Shotton was set alight.
The topper was designed by the Gerty and Sid Craft Group - who meet at the Rivertown Church in Shotton a couple of times a month.
Julie Nagle, a member of the group, said: "We had a brainstorm within our group and came up with fish chips and ice-cream, and a seagull, as our theme for summer vibes.
"We're all very sad and disgusted about the topper being burnt, our group is trying to put smiles on the community which we believe has worked - but you can't please everyone.
"I've no idea why they feel the need to damage our hard work. Before the fire damage, we had a seagull and ice-creams stolen from it last week - which we had repaired and replaced. Words fail me why anyone would do it."

After news of the damage was posted on social media, dozens of people expressed their anger at the incident and passed on messages of support to the craft group.
One person said: "So sad isn't it when we can't have things to brighten up the area."
Another added: "I hate idiots that even think about this type of behaviour. They have no respect."
A further comment said: "Whoever did this they need to be ashamed of themselves - disgusting behaviour. Guys, don’t let the behaviour of this person put you off what you are doing. What you do is beautiful, keep up the good work."
Thankfully, the group has vowed to keep making the toppers, despite the incident.
Julie said: "We've decided as a group to put another one on for autumn/Halloween. A tiny portion of the population are not grinding us down. Everyone else is so supportive and love our creations."
