A TEAM of young Flintshire footballers have said a big thank you for the support of a sponsored event.
Hawarden Rangers Under 6 Team finished their 2022/23 season on a high with a sponsored walk up Moel Famau last month. The Sunday morning outing was to raise money for kits and equipment for the new 2023/24 season.
Their original target for the walk was £500 but with the generosity of family, friends, local companies and the community, the now U7s have raised more than £1,100.
Lauren Hardy's son Oliver is a member of the team, and the proud mum said: "This group of 19 boys have had an incredible first season together, working hard, growing in confidence, winning tournaments and trophies but more importantly always having a smile on their faces.

"This was the first time they's been entered into a league and they've created friendships that will last a lifetime.
"On the day they were so enthusiastic, they basically ran up Moel Famau, and encouraging family and friends. The weather was great, the boys were so full of energy.
"The local community really got behind us. Times are hard just now and people are struggling, so for people to put their hand in their pocket and donate, we were dumbfounded. Thank you to everyone that has donated to ensure the continued success of this grassroots football team for the season ahead.
"And thank you to the coaches Mike, Paul, Steve, Jack, Andy and Shane for all their hard work, which they volunteer their own time for, and of course to the boys and their parents. Here's to the 2023/24 season!"
