WREXHAM students found out how well they did during results day today (Thursday, August 17) in their A Level, AS Level and vocational qualifications.
Wexham Councillor Phil Wynn, lead member for education, was among those to praise students for their effort.
He said: “I would like to congratulate pupils on the fantastic results achieved today. I would like to thank them all – along with their teachers and parents – for their commitment to their studies, recognising the disruption the pandemic has had on their time in education.
“As they go on to the world of work, training or higher education we wish everyone the best of luck and continued success.”

The Maelor School, Penley
Around 40% of all grades awarded were A* or A grades and more than three quarters at A*-C. 100% of students entered for two or more A levels achieved the level 3 threshold (at least two passes).
Penny Ellwood, director of Sixth Form, said: “This year group has been an absolute delight to work with, thoroughly dedicated to their studies, enthusiastic about learning and supportive of each other. It’s so pleasing to see them achieving the required grades to move on to their university course of choice or higher apprenticeship.”
Achievements include:-
Ella Bailey-Rogers – 2A*,2A’s AS-A – will be reading Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Manchester.
Megan Bancroft – 4A*’s AS-A – will be reading Medicine at the University of Birmingham.
Issac Smith – 4A*’s 1A – will be studying Computer Science at the University of Bath.
Emily Roberts – A*,2A, B – will be studying Physics at St Andrews
Ben Evison-Shone A*, 3B – will be studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Nottingham

Heledd Stanford, head of Sixth Form said: "We are proud that every learner has achieved their qualifications and are successfully moving on to the next step of their academic or professional journey; whether it be pursuing higher education at university, embarking on training or entering the workforce.
“Our learners are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to society. Our Year 13 learners faced unique challenges, having been affected by the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic since Year 10.
“Despite these obstacles, they exhibited exceptional adaptability and determination, demonstrating their ability to overcome adversity and emerge stronger than ever. "
Catrin Pritchard, headteacher said: "These results are a reflection of the dedication our learners have displayed throughout their time at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd.
“Despite the challenges they faced, they have risen above and beyond, showing their potential to thrive in any circumstance.
“We couldn't be prouder of their accomplishments. Our learners’ achievements reflect their diligence, perseverance and the exceptional guidance they received in order to ensure success. I extend my gratitude to our learners, parents, teaching staff, governors and the entire school community for their support. "
Dinas Bran, Llangollen
Mark Hatch, headteacher said: "We are extremely proud of all of the students and their achievements and I would like to wish them all the very best on their next steps.
"We have many students going on to university, but we also have students with great apprenticeship opportunities.
"I am just so pleased for all the students and would like to thank the staff for all their efforts and for the support of the parents."
Castell Alun, Hope
In a bumper year, 38% of all grades awarded at A level were at A* - A. Furthermore, from a truly comprehensive open Sixth Form intake, 66% of grades were awarded at A* - B. 84% of all A level grades came between A*– C grades.
Abigail Bartlett, James Cotter, Sophie Keenan, Mia O’Brian and Archie Peffers each achieved a whopping 4 A* grades. Jamie Austen, Niah Bradley, Harry Bithell, Ruben Easedale, Reuben Rees-Slawson and Mischa Williams were the worthy recipients of a wonderful 3 A*, along with a raft of further top grades.
Colin Ellis, headteacher said: “This is a fantastic achievement for all concerned with Castell Alun. We are delighted for all our students and acknowledge the significant contributions of our primary schools, who also played a pivotal role in these accomplishments.
“Our Sixth Form continues to flourish and we are truly indebted to all parents and staff who have tirelessly supported these young people in achieving such great results.
“Our most grateful thanks today however, go perhaps to Mr Kevin Davies, our Sixth Form lead, who retires after 42 years of highly distinguished service. He has had a massively positive influence on a great many students through the years and is, quite simply, a Castell Alun living legend.”

Chief Executive Yana Williams said overall figures including A*-C grades were “fantastic” and pointed to the resilience of learners in successfully transitioning from secondary school to college during lockdown and going on to successfully complete their studies.
“We are proud of the students, they have risen to overcome the challenges of the last few years and once again demonstrated hard work and a focus to do their very best, with the support of our amazing staff and tutors.”
