Wrexham Police FC will contest their latest fundraising fixture against Everton FC podcasters ‘Talking Toffees’ next month.

The game will be played in Wrexham on Sunday, 3 September and it is the police side’s second meeting against Merseyside-based opposition.

The first came against Rainbow Toffees - Everton’s LGBTQ+ supporters group, in Liverpool last year.

In their fixtures against community sides to date, the Wrexham officers have raised more than £17,000 for charities, hospitals and local initiatives.

Proceeds from September’s game will support Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, with the money used to help fund treatment, life-saving equipment and toys for patients.

A JustGiving page has been set up ahead of the game.

Club founder and lifelong Evertonian, Sgt Dave Smith was delighted to take up the offer of a match against the Talking Toffees team.

He said: “As a club, we’re very active on social media and we work hard to promote the good causes we support.

“I think that’s certainly helped to raise our profile among the football community and we’ve had lots of offers from clubs outside of North Wales who are keen to play us.

“So, when the team at Talking Toffees reached out and offered to play in Wrexham we were happy to accept.

“They run an inclusive men's open age team, which aims to tackle social isolation and promotes positive mental health through exercise.

“Both teams are proud to be raising funds for Alder Hey - a brilliant hospital providing vital care for young patients across the North West and North Wales.”

Formed in January 2021, Wrexham Town Police FC are off-duty officers who aim to build cohesion between the police and the communities they serve.

Playing friendly matches on a monthly basis, the club’s charitable endeavours have even attracted the attention of Wrexham AFC’s high-profile owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Jointly, the pair made a £10,000 donation to the club’s fundraising drive for Wrexham Maelor Hospital earlier this summer.

The 12pm match against Talking Toffees will be played at Clywedog Leisure Centre, Wrexham.
