The new owners of the former Wetherspoon pub in Wrexham city centre say it is the “people’s place” with big plans for the venue.
The Midland, on High Street in Wrexham, was formerly the North and South Wales Bank Wetherspoon pub which closed in January this year.
The new owners, Sam Ansloos and his dad Marcus Ansloos have been looking for a venue to expand their brand.
The team have the Con's Club, in Ruabon which opened two years ago and a year later opened The Cefn Club, Cefn Mawr. Now they are bringing their business model to the centre of Wrexham at the Midland.
Sam said: “We envisage it as an all-encompassing venue.”
The venue will be “all purpose” with plans to open at 8am till late at night, serving food which will be locally sourced.
It will also have a “sports bar” feel according to Sam, with over 30 TV screens, pool tables, and dart boards.
The venue will also hold themed nights, have entertainment live music and suit the weekend night life as well as be available for people to just have a morning coffee so it will have “something for everyone”.
Sam said: “There will essentially be something going on every day of the week in the place to suit different walks of life.”
One of the most famous aspects of the former Wetherspoon was the long walk upstairs to the toilets.
When asked if there is a chance there would be toilets downstairs, Sam said: “We are planning to do that!”
Though this may come in later plans for the building, which is being developed in a “phased approach”.
He explained: “We’re going to try that in the phase one, it may be a phase two, but once we have done that, there will be really exciting plans for the upstairs where the toilets are.”
Sam said that these secret plans will be something “Wrexham has never seen before.”

The new name of the building, the Midland, came from the building’s original purpose as a bank, which it was last used as in 1999, before becoming at pub in 2001.
Sam explained: “I’ve known Wrexham for quite a while and so has my dad.
“Essentially, we don’t view it as our place, it’s not our place, we’re not opening it for us. It’s the people’s place so we wanted it to contain part of Wrexham’s heritage. So, we thought it was the most fitting name for the place.”
There is no confirmed date yet for when the venue will open, but Sam said they are looking at “hopefully in the next six to eight weeks”.
They are also starting to renovate, with the aim of building on the venue’s previous reputation as a meeting point for people and become one of the main venue hubs in Wrexham.
Sam added: “It’s the peoples place so it has something for everyone.”
