A NEW football club established in Flintshire is aiming to promote the Welsh language through the beautiful game.
Mold-based CPD Yr Wyddgrug are a new team who have entered the North East Wales Championship League for the 2023/24 season.
The dream of such a club first started through a group of friends who were playing five-a-side together on a Tuesday night.
As time went on, the numbers there grew and before the friends knew it, they were having nine v nine games.
That is when Joel Thomas and James Jones decided to take matters into their own hands, by becoming co-chairmen/players of eleven-a-side team CPD Yr Wyddgrug.
And not only is the club now being used to play men's football, but there is also a special focus from the boys to promote the Welsh language along the way.

Speaking to the Leader, Joel said: "I would say 80/85% of the team attended Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold so grew up speaking Welsh.
"But, it’s easy to see how, outside of the school environment, the language is not spoken enough and so we are trying our best to promote that within the club.
"We are speaking it when we can and also helping others that don’t speak the language to appreciate the importance, and help them learn bits along the way.
"With not everyone being able to speak the language it’s hard for us to use the language on the pitch but as the season progresses it’s our intention to have everyone understand demands on the pitch through use of the Welsh language."
Yr Wyddgrug's debut ended in an 8-3 defeat to Plas Madoc at their Llys Ben home ground last week.
But Joel believes that the club can go on to make a name for itself this season.

He said: "Our hopes for the season are to be as competitive as we can and make a real name for ourselves. We know it’s not going to be easy and it’s not going to happen overnight but being a newly formed team we will work hard to turn the fortunes in our favour.
"We wanted to form the club as it’s been a long ambition for both me and James growing up as best friends to have our own team and everything just fell into place."
