A WREXHAM-based pub has donated money to the Maelor Hospital after a much-loved customer sadly passed away.

The Long Pull Pub, Chester St, said its final farewell to Gordon Matthews, known by many as 'Goggy', a cherished customer and friend to everyone who knew him.

Gordon sadly passed on July, 2, at the age of 71.

The Leader:

The pub's landladies, Sarah Edwards and Lisa Lock, decided to kindly ask for donations and soon raised £300 for the Critical Care unit in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Sarah and Lisa said: "Gordon had been drinking in the pub since his teens. He was more like family than a customer.

"Ever since we took the pub 11-years-ago, he has always been there. Always willing to help and with the horse racing too (they never won).

"When Gordon passed, we made the deciison to have a whip round and the customers generosity was amazing.

"We decided to match what was raised and we donated the money to the critical care unit in the Maelor hospital."

Gordon played dominos for The Long Pull and loved his horse racing. He was also a devoted football fan to Wrexham AFC and Man City.

Along with the donations, Sarah and Lisa bought the trophy, the Gordon Matthews Cup, which will be donated to the dominoes league. A dominoes knockout will also be played annually to win the cup so that his name will always be remembered.
