Andrew Bond, 44, is from Wrexham, and a part-time computer engineer. He started ABPhotography about a year ago and is a member of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain.
When and why did you take up photography?
This all stemmed from the pandemic when we were in local lockdowns and couldn't go anywhere, we were restricted to our counties.
As the gym was also closed I started doing local walks every day, first down country park, Erddig. Then I started doing early morning walks around Wrexham town (now a city). Because my walks were early, the town was void of people and cars, so I started taking photos of the beautiful buildings in Wrexham, that wonderful architecture.
I started posting these pictures on Facebook as a means to keep myself occupied during lockdown and started getting positive feedback from members who were commenting. Since the majority of people were isolating and didn't want to go anywhere, they were saying how I was providing them with beautiful views of Wrexham to keep them going through the pandemic.
As restrictions were eased and we were slowly getting back to normality, despite it taking two years. I started to get some of my photos in print form, which I started selling to the public. A passion which I am still trying to build on today.
What do you love about taking pictures?
Being able to capture the moment, the beauty that you might not be able to capture again
Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?
People always say they love a good sunset but since I do a lot of early morning walks, I've all for one capturing the sunrises, so it doesn't matter where, so long as the sun is coming up. I do love pictures over water, so various lake, rivers, sea which capture a good sunrise.
What equipment do you use?
When I was starting my walks, I was only carrying my phone, first a Samsung Galaxy S10, which later upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S20, where the photos taken by this were phenomenal. I acquired a proper DSLR camera last year, which I've started using more this year and becoming more familiar with it. It's a Canon EOS 7D and I have also purchased a tripod to do more with waterfalls.
What do you enjoy about being part of the Leader Camera Club?
Meeting up with fellow members for photo walks, learning new tips and tricks, just general banter but also enjoy the fabulous work/pictures that everyone produces and posts on the Leader Camera Club group.
If you could photograph anyone or any place who/what would it be and why?
Somewhere where the architecture is old and spectacular. Would love to visit the Great Wall of China some day.
Anything else you think we should know?
Since selling my prints and getting good feedback from my posts, I have started to get generous by offering free prints as raffle/tombola prizes for any charity fundraising events. I have also recently been offering free photoshoots for a month, to help build up my portfolio but also to help promote local businesses in these difficult times, when not many people are visiting the local city centres as much.
