A NEW amateur boxing club has officially opened its doors in Flintshire.
Mold ABC held its grand opening last week (July 17) much to the delight of the community.
Over 50 ready and waiting boxers watched on as mayor of Mold, Cllr Teresa Carberry and deputy mayor, Cllr Sarah Taylor cut the red ribon at the former ATS garage on Wrexham Road.
Owner and local businessman, Michael Phillips revealed his delight to finally get his ambition finally off the ground and looked ahead to an exciting future within the town.
"I put a lot into making this gym; time, effort and money.
"People didn’t realise they needed a place like this, but it's here now and people will realise how powerful [it is] and how much can be achieved in one building with the right intentions over the years ahead."
Liverpool-born Michael also shared his vision to expand in the future to cater for the wider community and give opportunities for children with autism and ADHD.
"The plans for the future, the vision is to be able to have the centre operational throughout the day.
"To have classrooms, offices and a board room upstairs with shower facilities, so we can open the gym on a day-to-day basis and have classes for people with ADHD in their sessions together and autistic classes.
"We want to give them that confidence and get them doing more activities where they feel safe and can enjoy training and getting healthy so they want to engage more with confidence, also people with behavioural problems all in their own classes, for some of them it will change their lives and put them on a path like no other activity would.

"Not all kids will change their lives but if we can get half of them living better, wanting to be better - then that is a mission worth fighting for.
"We also want a place where people who are struggling can come and speak to someone at any time. [To] give someone the confidence or strength to carry on fighting as we all have to battle each and every day but this way we don’t have to do it alone we do it as a community together."
Mold ABC currently opens on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings and is open to all.
