NORTH Wales Police Ladies charity match to raise funds for a girl's football team was a huge success.

The game against North Wales Fire and Rescue Ladies took place on Wednesday, at Ysgol y Grango in Rhos.

The team handed over nearly £600 to the school to help fund a kit for pupils to start a girl’s football team.

Sergeant Sophie Ho, Wrexham Rural Support, of the NWP Ladies Football Team said: “We would like to thank every one of you who contributed to the fundraiser and helped exceed our initial target. In total, we raised £580.

“We are grateful for every penny that was donated, which has gone to Ysgol Y Grango to help fund a football kit to start a girl’s football team.

“The NWP Ladies team wanted to take the opportunity to do something positive for young girls in the community – and as the school had been so supportive of our team by allowing us to use their pitch.

"PCSO Enya Bellis-Jones came up with the idea of giving something back to the school.

“Our team really believes in presenting opportunities for girls to play football at school and grassroots levels to encourage inclusion in all activities and promote the sport as a game for everyone.

“We will continue to raise money at future games, and would love for any local girls’ teams, or those who are starting up any teams within the Wrexham Rural area, to come forward so we can support them too – and additionally, help aspiring female footballers feel they belong on the pitch.”
