A BENCH in Mold has been unveiled in honour of a former mayor and town councillor.
Current Mayor of Mold, Councillor Teresa Carberry and other members of Mold Town Council were delighted to be invited to the unveiling of the bench by the family of Joyce Jones.
The bench serves in memory of Joyce, who was a long-standing town councillor and twice Mayor.
Joyce served on the town council from 1991-2012 and was Mayor from 2000- 2001 and 2007-2008.
Born in Llandyrnog near Denbigh, Joyce moved to Mold with her husband Gilbert in 1968 and first met members of the ward she would represent when she was the first lollipop lady on Clayton Road for Bryan Gwalia school.
Joyce ran the Daniel Owen playgroup for 15 years and it was during this time she ran for town council and joined her fellow councillors in 1991, continuing to serve for the next 21 years until 2012.

Joyce's daughter, Gwen said: "She was well known to the residents of her ward and when approached about any problems, had a reputation of getting straight to the matter, even involving county councillors and the local MP to get the matter resolved.
"She also served as the Honorary President of the Delyn Liberal Democrat party for many years and received a letter of acknowledgment of her long service from Nick Clegg.
"Joyce was well known by many in the town and was well known for turning up to coffee mornings with raffle prizes whatever the charity.
"The bench has been placed by Fir Grove, as she always had great concern for the older generation and always posted a Christmas card with some teabags in it for the residents there up until Covid hit and her passing after a short illness on the 7th of March 2021."
