THIS is the moment water poured into the main entrance area of Wrexham Maelor Hospital amid Saturday's thunderstorms.

Areas across Wrexham were hit by flash flooding on Saturday afternoon - and the Maelor hospital was also victim to the torrential downpours. 

A video shows water pouring down from the roof at the main entrance - with water flooding the corridor. 

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) has since confirmed that no lasting damage was caused during the incident. 

The Leader reported in January that the health board had written to the Welsh Government about the need to bring its aging buildings, including Wrexham Maelor Hospital, up to standard.

A report found that Wrexham Maelor Hospital has the second highest backlog maintenance in the health board’s estate and that the age and resilience of the engineering infrastructure is a concern.

Ian Donnelly, director of operations for east integrated health community at BCUHB, said: “On Saturday, following the thunderstorm and heavy rainfall, the main entrance area of Wrexham Maelor Hospital was closed due to flooding and safety considerations.

“Patients and visitors were directed to Entrance B to enter and exit the hospital.

"We’d like to thank our staff for going above and beyond to clean up the site. The area has reopened without any lasting damage.”
