A MUM of two from Wrexham who overcame a brain tumour was left blown away after raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Vicky Lewis, from Marchwiel, was diagnosed with the tumour in September 2021.

The 43-year-old went through several treatments including a potentially 'life-changing' surgery.

Thankfully, all the procedures were successful and to thank the people that helped her through the treatment, Vicky hosted a charity night.

On Saturday, July 1, she hosted a charity auction at the village hall in Marchwiel in aid of the British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) and the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre.

There were several prizes on offer including a cruise, a trip to Malta, and weekend breaks, it ended up with a total of £9,000 being raised.

Some of the most popular prizes were a Wrexham top signed by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, which sold for £600 and a gin bottle signed by Ryan, which sold for £250.

Vicky's husband, Mark also completed a 24-hour bike ride in June, which raised £2,500, taking the combined total to £11,500 raised for charity.

The charity night proved to be an 'emotional' and 'amazing' night for all involved.

Vicky said: "We sold 120 tickets and it was brilliant to be surrounded by friends, family and other people from the village.

"I've got to thank all the businesses that supported us, there's too many to name all of them, but a special mention to Diane Drop Pop Balloons, Unique Rocks, DJ Don Slee, Joy Edwards, Andy at the Red Lion and Wrexham Lager.

"We had food put on, a disco, a raffle, and an auction with some amazing prizes.

"I've had amazing support from all the local businesses and I cannot thank them enough."

The founder of the centre, and the man who completed Vicky's Surgery, Professor Andrew King was also in attendance at the event.

Vicky added: "It was a brilliant night and the surgeon was really humbled by all of the support, he said nothing like that had ever happened before, so it was quite emotional.

"Everyone enjoyed it and had a great time, so much so that they want me to do it again, but I think I need a break first.

"The amount raised is amazing and I can't believe the generosity we've received from everyone, it's just brilliant."
