WREXHAM Council is aiming to reopen the A525 in Bangor on Dee after a lorry fire caused the closure of the road.

The lorry fire (on Thursday, May 29) led to a diversion which was put in place whilst the highway and verge are cleared and repairs are made to the highway to enable the safe re-opening of the road.

On Friday (June 30), Wrexham Council said the A525 would "remain closed until further notice, as there is a possibility of contamination on site” and on Monday specialist cleaning contractors were at the site removing the contents of the lorry and debris.

There were no casualties but concerns have been raised by residents about the possible contamination.

Cllr Robert Ian Williams, whose ward this issue falls into, had made calls for more transparency for the residents however on Monday the council said that their officers "will continue to liaise with nearby residents directly".

The latest update from the council on the road is that they are looking to reopen it today (Tuesday, July 4).

A spokesperson said: “Contractors are currently removing the damaged road surface, with installation of the new road surface to be completed by this afternoon. We are aiming to re-open the road later today. (04.07.23)”
