A MAN has lost his licence after being caught drug driving in Wrexham city centre.

Stuart Duckett, of Windsor Road in New Broughton, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The 41-year-old admitted two offences of drug driving - in that he drove a BMW motor vehicle on Mold Road in Wrexham when the proportion of cannabis and benzoylecgonine (cocaine breakdown product) in his blood exceeded the specified limit.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court Duckett was seen driving on Mold Road in the city on the evening of March 27 and was stopped at the entrance to the Wrexham Tennis Centre.

The court heard officers could smell cannabis, leading to Duckett being tested and ultimately providing readings of 8.8 microgrammes of cannabis per litre of blood (the limit being 2) and 168 microgrammes of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood (the limit being 50.)

Mr Espie said there were "no issues with the defendant's driving."

Pierce Blythen, defending, told the court the inevitable driving ban would make work more difficult for the defendant, adding: "Mr Duckett runs a window cleaning business, working in Wrexham and Chester.

"He is extremely disappointed in himself and entered his guilty pleas at the earliest opportunity.

The Leader:

"He was doing his rounds, collecting payments, and confirmed he consumed the drugs the weekend prior to his arrest.

"It was a poor decision, and something he regrets doing."

Duckett received a £160 fine and was ordered to pay a £64 victim surcharge as well as £85 costs.

He was also banned from driving for 16 months.
