A FOOTBALL ground in Flintshire has been renamed in memory of the much-loved Jamie Wynne.

The 28-year-old, who played for Connah's Quay Town FC and Connah's Quay Nomads, tragically took his own life last September

Tributes poured in following his death, with Jamie being described as an "incredibly talented footballer" and "a genuine, loveable lad and great man".

Last weekend, a memorial game was held at a pitch in Wepre Park where Connah's Quay Town FC play their home games.

At the event, the pitch was formally renamed as The Jamie Wynne Memorial Ground.

The Leader:

Alyn & Deeside's Member of the Senedd, Jack Sargeant, was very close friends with Jamie.

He described it as "an honour to be a part of the day".

"There’s only one Jamie Wynne," he added.

MORE NEWS:

This September, Jamie's brother, Ben, will mark the first anniversary of his death by running from Anfield stadium - the home of Jamie's beloved Liverpool FC - to their family home in Connah's Quay.

Ben has already raised just shy of £1,000 for charity, and people can donate to his JustGiving page at bit.ly/3JGI22b

Ben said: "I am doing this to raise awareness for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.

"The challenge will be no doubt the hardest thing I’ll ever do but doesn’t come close to the pain of losing someone through suicide."

Talking about last weekend's event, Ben added: "What a great day bringing everyone together and remembering Jamie.

"Thanks for everyone making the effort. Same again next year."
