A MAN has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a 22-year-old from Prestatyn by driving dangerously.

Simon Jones, 28, of Crispin Lane, Wrexham admitted the charge at Mold Crown Court on Friday (June 23).

Jack Daniel Elden Chahal died at Glan Clwyd Hospital on April 17, 2022 after the crash on the A548 in Gronant shortly before 5am that day.

He was a front-seat passenger in a silver BMW vehicle driven by Jones, which collided with a tree.

Jones himself suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital's trauma unit in a critical condition.

In addition, Jones admitted the following three charges:

  • Driving on April 17, 2022 following the revocation of his licence.
  • Driving on April 17, 2022 without third party insurance.
  • Refusing to allow a sample of his blood to be taken for analysis at St Asaph Police Station on October 20, 2022.

His licence had been revoked on March 4, 2022.

Jones will be sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Friday, June 30.

An application for bail was granted by Judge Niclas Parry, who also disqualified him from driving.

Judge Parry told Jones: “I can tell you now: it will be me sentencing you, and I will bear in mind that you’ve lost a friend and have been injured.”

Mr Elden was described by his family as “the best son and brother you could ask for” following his death, and had ambitions to set up his own IT business.
