AN ACCLAIMED drag queen is leading a team up Mount Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) dressed in drag for a Flintshire charity.

Ian Davies, known by his stage name Shaggerada, is a drag artist by night, and clinical psychologist by day.

His outrageous act has seen him tour all over the UK, and beyond.

But there is another side to the former soldier - who is a fundraiser for the Counselling Hub suicide prevention charity, based in Mold.

And on August 20, he is leading a team of people who will all be dressed in drag up Wales' highest mountain in aid of the hub.

A JustGiving page dedicated the event has been set up and can be donated to at https://bit.ly/3XiDzIy

He said: "I organise all sorts of fundraisers for the hub, I take people tandem parachuting and paragliding in Santa Cruz, we’ve done 500km hill run challenges, sponsored walks - like from the Red Lion, Penyffordd to Llandudno Pier and lots of others. This is the latest novelty fundraiser.

"I took the idea from 'Pricilla Queen of The Desert' - the film where the drag queens climb Ayers Rock (Uluru) in full drag. In my experience, people love to drag up - regardless of their sexual orientation or gender. It’s just a hilarious thing to do with a large group of fun people and you can imagine the banter."

Ian, from Mold, added: "Everyone is affected by some sort of mental health issues sometime in their lives and sadly struggle to get the help needed. After studying and qualifying in psychotherapy for years to address some of my own quirks (issues) I became a part-time clinical psychologist with other organisations and networks.

"I also find immense purpose raising money and awareness for The Counselling Hub - dedicated to suicide prevention, and anxiety and depression management which is a remarkable nonprofit charity."

All participants are asked to make their own way to Snowdon and to be at the base of the Pyg trail to commence the climb at 7am.

Ian added: "You must have a certain level of fitness to put your name forward. This is going to be a fun and hilarious event, whilst raising vital money for a remarkable charity. Remember to wear sensible footwear and bring your sense of humour."
