WORK on a major redevelopment of a Wrexham primary school is set to be completed by the end of the summer, a councillor has said.
Councillor David A Bithell visited Ysgol Yr Hafod in Johnstown on Monday to see the progress of the school's renovation.
The £4.5m scheme of works is to integrate the old schoolhouse with a new extension at the existing junior school site situated on Bangor Road. When the new school year starts in September, infants and juniors will be taught on the same site for the first time.
Cllr Bithell, who is also chair of the govenors at the school, said: "Work is progressing and to be completed by end of August. There is still lots to be done both inside and out over the next two months. The new lay-bys in Bangor Road are also being created which were part of the planning process to provide additional parking.
"The new school will be an all through primary school together with early years entitlement in the school house."

He added: "We will be arranging an open day when work is complete and will be writing to parents and the wider community when we have some firm timescales on dates and when we will be vacating the foundation phase site and removing the mobile classrooms.
"It will be a fantastic addition to the community for many years to come."
Clwyd South MS Ken Skates was recently invited to see the progress being made on the work.
Mr Skates said: “The project is progressing really well - the school is going to look incredible when the work is completed. There’s a real buzz around the place and so much excitement among the staff and the team behind the rebuild.
“It will almost be like a brand new school, not just for the current pupils but for future generations. Not only will the children have bigger, brighter new classrooms and much-improved facilities, but the kitchen is also being modernised to help the school roll out the Welsh Government’s policy of free school meals for all pupils by 2024.”
