THIS is the moment people were evacuated from The Racecourse stadium as rain poured in following damage to the roof.
The Leader reported yesterday (Sunday, June 18) that families enjoying a Father's Day meal in 1864 Suite were evacuated after heavy rain caused damage to the Macron Stand reception area.
A Wrexham AFC spokesperson said: "In the wake of the torrential rain that hit the region late this afternoon (Sunday), some structural damage has resulted in a large leak inside the Macron Stand reception area.
"All diners were evacuated from the Suite on safety grounds, with the Fire and Rescue Service contacted. Everyone inside the stand at the time was successfully evacuated.
"All guests who were part of the third sitting will be contacted by the club, and we share their disappointment that – after two successful sittings – circumstances beyond our control have disrupted our plans for the evening."
They added: "We will assess the situation in the Macron Stand, to ensure we can get everything back up and running as soon as possible."
A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.29pm on Sunday. Two crews attended the incident.
"Crews assisted around 50 people to get out of the building and made the building electrically safe."
