A POLICE Inspector has urged members of the public not to buy items they aren't sure about from doorstep sellers.
Wrexham Inspector Luke Hughes issued the advice as part of his daily policing update.
He explained that just after 11am on Wednesday, officers were notified about a "white van in Fairfield Street selling mattresses."
"My advice on this," he said, "is regardless of how good the deal may be, never buy items from cold callers; in particular TVs, mattresses or fish!
"Over the years I’ve seen plenty of TV’s purported to be 'extra surplus stock' but were in fact broken, some rather dubiously stained 'new' mattresses, and some rather fishy fish.
"If in doubt, simply do not buy. A polite smile and refusal should suffice."
The Inspector gave an overview of the other matters his team had been dealing with throughout Wednesday and into Thursday.

Among those reports were issues in the grounds of a church adjacent to Holt Road, with "rough sleepers and mess."
Officers are to monitor the situation, he stated.
A report of a stolen bike on Wednesday morning turned out to have a "nice happy ending," when officers were later told it had simply been borrowed and later returned.
Also being monitored is the area of Homestead Lane after reports were received of a motorbike being driven "recklessly".
Insp Hughes said that just after 3.10pm on Wednesday, his team also received a report of a theft from a shop on the Central Retail Park - namely a quantity of washing tablets.
CCTV reviews are pending, he added.
