ROB MCELHENNEY says he 'expects' to be booed when Wrexham take on a club from his hometown in a pre-season friendly.

Wrexham AFC's pre-season tour this summer will be like no other before as they head to the USA.

Fresh off the back of a National League winning and promotion earning campaign, the Reds face a tasty fixture list in the coming weeks.

Next month, they will face Chelsea in North Carolina (July 19), LA Galaxy II in Los Angeles (July 22) and Manchester United in San Diego (July 25).

The tour will then culminate in a match in Rob's home of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania against a Philadelphia Union II side on July 29.

Ahead of the match, Rob has - perhaps jokingly, but perhaps not - stated that he does not expect the warmest of receptions there.

It will no doubt be a strange experience for the 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' actor as his Wrexham side look to take the victory against his hometown club.

Taking to Twitter, he said: "I will most certainly be booed. That's a badge of honor in Philly. I'm just glad it won't be snowing."

Rob is an avid supporter of all things Philadelphia - including the Philadelphia Eagles American football team.

Since taking over at Wrexham with friend and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds in early 2021, the club has been taken on an incredible journey already.

As well as earning promotion back to the English Football League after a 15-year wait, the Welcome to Wrexham documentary has also helped to boost the club's profile worldwide.
