WREXHAM goalkeeper Ben Foster starred for the winning team at this year's Soccer Aid match held over the weekend.

The legendary shot-stopper was a huge part of the Reds team who won promotion back to the English Football League during the 22/23 season.

His penalty save in the massive 3-2 win over fellow title-chasers Notts County proved to be vital as Wrexham were eventually crowned champions.

And so fans were delighted when it was just recently announced that Foster has signed a further one-year deal to remain at the Racecourse.

That means the 40-year-old former England international will star for the club once more in 23/24 as it aims to challenge in League Two.

But ahead of that, Foster represented the 'World XI' team in the annual Soccer Aid tournament over the weekend.

They took on an England team at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium on Sunday, June 10.

In what is one of the world's biggest charity matches, the two sides faced off in aid of UNICEF and raised an amazing £14,619,005.

And Foster was on the winning team alongside football greats such as Roberto Carlos, Hernan Crespo and Francesco Totti as World XI won 4-2 on the night - their fifth win in a row.

The likes of Jack Wilshere, Paul Scholes, Sir Mo Farah and Liam Payne represented England while Usain Bolt, Tommy Fury and Man of the Match Tom Grennan wore the World XI colours.

The goalscorers on the night were; Robbie Keane (2), Bolt and Kem Cetinay for World XI and Scholes and Asa Butterfield for England.

Foster played 50 minutes of the match - and had kept England out before being replaced by UFC world champion Leon Edwards in net.

The Wrexham man also did well to keep out Jermaine Defoe and Liam Payne in the early stages of the match.

Foster is now in his second spell with Wrexham having returned to the club last season.

In between his first spell there in 2005, the goalkeeper played in the Premier League with the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Manchester United and Watford.

He also represented England eight times between 2007 and 2014.

But, according to reports, Foster decided to represent the World XI team at the match simply because he 'wants to take part in Soccer Aid'.
