THE Royston Club's lead songwriter has described the response to their debut album as 'overwhelming' as they sit alongside some of the world's biggest artists in the official charts.

The Wrexham-based band released their first album 'Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars' on Friday, much to the delight of fans.

The band celebrated the release with gigs in Wrexham, followed by performances in Manchester and Liverpool over the weekend.

Following the 'overwhelming' response, The Royston Club now find themselves in a chart battle with some of the world's best.

They went to the top of the alternative charts on Itunes, above Lewis Capaldi and are now battling it out alongside Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and the Foo Fighters in the official charts.

On the response to the album, guitarist and lead songwriter Ben Matthias, said: "It’s been a slightly surreal week, travelling up and down the country meeting fans of ours who have come out in mass to see us and chat to us.

"The reaction to the album itself has been overwhelming, we never could have dreamt so many people would have not only listened but enjoyed a piece of work we created.

"Seeing our name on the official charts alongside huge names like Beyoncé/foo fighters/Noel Gallagher was a new experience. We feel like tiny fish in a giant ocean-sized pond."

The band also announced plans to play their biggest gig in Wrexham to date, as they are set to perform at the William Aston Hall in November as part of their UK tour.

They will play in the hometown gig on Saturday, November 25.
