A RE-BRANDED pub is set to open in Wrexham this weekend, with a name that nobody is likely to forget in a hurry.

The venue was previously known as the Nag's Head and is located on Chester Road in Lavister.

It has remained empty since around last September, but will be given a new lease of life as of this Saturday (June 10).

From then on, it will officially be known as The Dog and Pickle.

Its new tenants - who wished to remain anonymous - took over the pub a month ago.

Speaking to the Leader, they said they are 'nervous' but 'excited' to officially be able to open to the public.

The tenants added: "We have driven past the pub quite a few times and it was looking dilapidated and in need of some attention. So, we said we'd go for it.

"We're nervous but excited to get it open, there seems to be a bit of a buzz around that in the community."

The owner's say that the pub's name is believed to be one of just two 'Dog and Pickle's' in the UK.

They added: "The name came out of nowhere really, we chose it as a family. We're not a brand, we're what would probably be described as a high-end gastro pub.

"We have a team of great chefs on board, some of which have worked at Michelin Star restaurants.

"The Nag's Head was also one of the first of the pubs in the local area to be recognised by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and so that's a tradition we're going to be continuing through a range of ales."

The Dog and Pickle will open to customers from midday on Saturday, June 10.
