A CHARITY in Wrexham has played a key role in securing a defibrillator for residents at a local community centre.

Your Space Autism charity based in Llay has recently been successful in attaining a defib for the Llay resource centre.

The project of securing the defib came about through Your Space, Llay Community Council, and Wrexham Council combining their efforts.

The Autism charity was recently boosted by Wrexham striker Paul Mullin becoming a patron.

Rachel Hancocks, head of service at Your Space, applied for the defibrillator and the cost of the cabinet was secured by the community council.

Wrexham Council ensured the installation.

Rachel said: “The need for the Defib was highlighted to us during the pandemic when the initiative was brought to our attention from 'Save a life Cymru'.

"With such strain on NHS and ambulance crew being well documented, the need to have this potentially life-saving equipment was highlighted.

"Not only will it be on hand for Your Space children and families but all the tenants of Llay Community Resource Centre and their customers which includes a barbers, café, and chiropodist service.

"We are situated in the heart of Llay, next door to St Martin of Tours church as well as local shops and Llay CP school."

"We would also like to thank Llay Community Council members for their funding for the defibrillator housing case.
