A Wrexham based orchestra is set to showcase international musical stars of the future in two major upcoming concerts.

The professional orchestra NEW Sinfonia, soon to make their Llangollen International Festival debut, is partnering with the Royal Northern College of Music to bring virtuosic classics to Wrexham and St Asaph.

Bringing classical music concerts of the highest standard to North Wales has always been a personal goal for NEW Sinfonia Co-artistic Directors and local Wrexham brothers Robert and Jonathan Guy.

On Friday, June 9 at 7.30pm till 9.30pm at St Asaph Cathedral, the first concert Appalachian Spring & Symphonic Dances will feature Copland’s popular ballet and Rachmaninoff’s tumultuous Symphonic Dances.

On the conducting podium will be Cyprus born Andreas Asiikkis, Colombian conductor Maria Barbosa, Josephine Korda, Italian born Matteo dal Maso, and German born Alexander Rebetge – a group whose professional experience spans over renowned institutions, and orchestras across the globe.

Featuring the humorous and iconic Figaro by Mozart will be the second concert on Saturday, June 10 from 1pm to 2.30pm at St Giles Church in Wrexham.

The concert will feature selections of the opera sung by soprano Emily Stewart and bass-baritone Stian Jebsen as well as exciting contemporary works by UK composers including a flute solo by former Opera North principal Kevin Gowland.
