TWO DETERMINED friends have so far raised over £2,000 for the children's ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Carl Mather, from Leeswood who is an ex-amateur boxer and current coach at Gerry's gym in Mold is being joined by close friend and professional MMA fighter, Danny Dixon, from Deeside who trains out of Meritor Gym in Llay, to run three miles every three hours.
The pair aim to raise funds for the ward which has a close connection to their hearts, via Awyr Las Gogledd Cymru - Blue Sky North Wales, a charity that supports NHS services across North Wales.
Beginning their efforts on Saturday, (May 20) the duo have so far raised an incredible £2,102 and if anyone wishes to donate to the cause they can do so by visiting their Just Giving page.
Carl's 18-month old daughter, Talia Mather is unfortunately a regular visitor to the children’s ward due to her suffering with seizures since May last year.
Reflecting on the amazing work the staff do at the hospital, Carl's partner and Talia's mum, Gemma Crabtree said: "The nurses and doctors on the ward are absolutely amazing with Talia, nothing is ever too much trouble.
"As much as it’s not nice to be there under the circumstances, the nurses especially, make it feel more bearable by being so caring and amazing at their jobs.
"So as a little thank you, Carl Mather and Danny Dixon are wanting to raise money by running three miles every three hours.

"If you could help them raise as much as possible to go towards [the] children’s ward we would appreciate it very much.
"Thank you for supporting the specific hospital wards, departments or community healthcare services that are closest to your heart through the North Wales NHS Charity, Awyr Las (Blue Sky).
"Your support helps fund some of the added extras - big and small - that go above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide, making a real difference for local patients and their families when they need it the most."
