WREXHAM AFC co-chairman Ryan Reynolds has thanked a group of fundraisers for coming together in memory of a seven-year-old boy who died following a fight with brain cancer.

Wrexham fan Aaron Wharton died at Hope House Hospice on Sunday, April 9 with parents Nicola and Lee by his side.

Ryan recently made a surprise appearance on a big screen in a video message, as dozens of people gathered for a charity firewalk in memory of Aaron, who was from Buckley. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌

In the surprise video message, addressing the hundreds of people who turned out for the fundraiser Racecourse Ground, Ryan said: “There’s absolutely no reason why somebody like Aaron should not be with us here today, so the work you’re doing is incredibly important and hugely impactful to so many people. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

So far, the firewalkers, nicknamed Aaron’s Army, have raised more than £10,000.

Aaron’s mum, Nicola, 39, from was overwhelmed the Deadpool star's message.

She said: “Building up to the event I was so focused on making sure everything went smoothly to honour Aaron. I was shaking when I heard Ryan say Aaron’s name, I was in disbelief.

"The fact that Ryan echoes and agrees with everything we have set out to do since Aaron’s diagnosis is incredible.”

Wrexham AFC captain Luke Young, who Aaron was a mascot for in November 2022, returned from Las Vegas to show his support at the event.

He was joined by the likes of the mayor of Buckley, Councillor Julia Jones.

Aaron was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive ependymoma in 2020.

During his three-year battle, he bravely underwent surgery and gruelling radiotherapy treatment.

In September 2022, the family found out the cancer had sadly spread.
