Swimming gala, Connah's Quay
Pupils from primary schools across Connah's Quay took part in a swimming gala.
Youngsters from Ysgol Bryn Deva, Golftyn CP School, Wepre School and Ysgol Cae'r Nant competed in a consortium swimming gala at Connah's Quay pool.
Children swam in a variety of races and were cheered on by friends and family who came to watch.
All children won medals in races and did their schools proud. Huge well done to Golftyn Primary who won the trophy.
Cornist Park School, Flint
The school community celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III in style.
Celebrations began with a Royal themed topic week, where all activities were of a Royal or historical nature. This culminated on the Friday with a street party, where the children were invited to wear red, white and blue, waved their flags and sang along to a range of popular songs, whilst enjoying a picnic lunch.
Celebrations continued with a very special visit to school by the Lord Lt of Clwyd, Harry Fetherstonhaugh.
Whilst on his visit, the Lord Lt assisted governors in judging some Coronation competitions the children had entered. These ranged from designing a Coronation coin, collaging a Union Jack with a variety of materials, multimedia landscapes of Wales or the local area, and designing posters or writing letters to the new King, to highlight and raise environmental issues and concerns.
Once the judging and prizegiving was completed, the whole school moved outdoors where a commemorative tree was planted by the Lord Lt and the chair of governors, Edwin Hughes.
St Giles CiW Primary School, Wrexham
Over the past few weeks, the school has had an extra special time celebrating.
The whole school came together, wearing red, to watch the highlights of Wrexham's exciting promotion win to the Football League. The cheers could be heard for miles! Pupils donated money which will be used by the school's Eco and School Council to redevelop a Quiet and Calm Area for lunch time.
To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, pupils wore red, white and blue and held a whole school collective worship, learning about King Charles' life and about each special part of the Coronation.
Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed taking part in a range of coronation activities. In the morning, the whole of the St Giles' School community came together on the school field to enjoy each other's company, sharing cakes and drinks which were donated by local supply agencies, Educate, Excell Supply and New Directions.
There was music and dancing, and much laughter. Each pupil was presented with a King Charles III medal to commemorate the historic occasion.
Ysgol Bryn Deva, Connah's Quay
The Deeside school has joined forces with Flintshire Council to help raise awareness about the issue of dog fouling at Central Park.
In cooperation with Keep Wales Tidy, and to reflect their 'Bag It, Bin It' campaign, pupils joined Adriana Szostakowska the environmental improvement coordinator, and Wendy Jones, from Keep Wales Tidy
The keen eyed children, helped by the environmental enforcement officers and Cllr Ryan O'Gorman, together with school staff, walked through the park, observing the 'don't touch, tell' ethos and pointing out dog poo they saw, for the adults to then mark with a flag.
The children helped share the 'bag it, bin it' and 'leave only paw prints' message by spraying biodegradable, washable chalk spray on the pavements, leading dog owners to the appropriate bins. Local dog owners were grateful to receive free dog poo bags and to see the new 'glow in the dark' signs. The unbelievable amount of flagged dog poo was later cleared by the council.
Research suggest that nine out of 10 dog owners do pick up after their dogs. However, the decision not to pick up made by one out of 10, led to 130 dog poos in just six months found within our sample area. This trial has finished now and it's up to the dog owners to keep the area clean, and not disappoint the children.
Cllr O'Gorman said: "This is a fantastic event for children from Ysgol Bryn Deva to promote environmental issues in the area. The children and staff were all very keen to support this event."
Ysgol Ty Ffynnon, Deeside
Children and staff enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
The school's parent group, Friends of Ty Ffynnon and junior children and staff hosted the afternoon, where all children took part in different activities around the school.
The children were able to pin the tail on the corgi, ears on King Charles and match the King and Queen.
Everyone had a great time on such a memorable occasion for all the children.
