A NEW music label has been established in Wrexham to help local talent take their careers to the next level.

Hip-hop inspired street poet, project manager and community advocate, Evrah Rose and music marketer, Steve Cusack have teamed up to launch Red Roach.

The label has been developed to both engage with and offer local talent the opportunity to grow their careers, both domestically and internationally.

Steve has worked with a mix of artists, marketing music globally for the likes of Big Narstie, Snoop Dogg, Lil Pump, Bad Bunny, El Alfa, Calboy, Max & Harvey, Ray J, Union J, The 1975, Marshmello, Sam Smith, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and more.

Now Steve, who also worked on the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, says he wants to help Wrexham musicians expand their horizons.

He told the Leader: "In January 2022, taking a brief break from the music business, I worked as a COVID officer for Ryan Reynolds and his team for around four months covering the “Welcome To Wrexham” documentary.

"Essentially, I was told in my early years to get “A real job”, and became an army medic, progressing to NHS Paramedic. This is how my fate brought me to Wrexham.

"It was only then that I developed a love for the town (now city) and after spending time working with amazing local talents, I became aware that there was an infrastructure that I could offer value to."

Steve added: "I only really realised how cool Wrexham is when I started working on the documentary. It thoroughly deserves the exposure it has been getting.

"Rob (McElhenney) and Ryan (Reynolds) have helped put Wrexham on the map and we want to do that too."

According to Steve, Red Roach is a pro artist and outwardly looking label for music creatives to grow their brand and unlike most traditional label models, they do not own the copyright to an artist's music.

He added: "That remains the entire possession of the artist. We offer distribution worldwide and marketing across all channels, both domestically and internationally, generating opportunity and facilitating artist growth and experience."

Evrah Rose, a musician, poet and published author is well known for her support and dedication to Wrexham and its arts scene.

Having been signed herself to both Verve Poetry Press and Labrynth Music as an artist, Evrah is now aiming to utilise her skills and experience in performing, writing and PR to support the growth of creatives in her beloved hometown.

She said: "It's always been very important to me to highlight the talent of people from Wrexham. When it comes to musicality and creativity, you only have to walk our streets to hear a unique rhythm and beat - a bustling of a community that works hard and dreams big.

"So, why not grow a Wrexham based record label that does the same? To do this with Steve Cusack who, after working in the area with locals on the documentary, has developed a love and passion for the town very much akin to my own - it definitely feels the perfect moment to unleash Red Roach, and the raw potential of our many brilliant, diverse artists here.

"Combining our experience in the industry in management, marketing and performance - and developing a label from the core of my roots that supports the wider community - it's the most natural progression.”

The label already boasts its first signing - locally based rapper and hip-hop artist, Benzy.
