A Wrexham Red Cross volunteer is one of four from North Wales to be attending the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

The four volunteers are Barrie Roberts, Nicholas Brown, Richard Worsley and Sian Stephenson.

Nicholas, from Wrexham, is an Emergency Response Volunteer. He is a retired and decorated Police Constable and currently works as a freelance photographer.

Nick joined the British Red Cross in December 2021 after being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during the pandemic. As a volunteer, Nick has supported Ukrainians at Welcome Centres and attended the aftermath of floods and house fires.

He said: “It’s an honour to represent the Red Cross, my colleagues and my community at the coronation. I’ve found volunteering for the Red Cross to be so rewarding. I appreciate the impact we have when I see the look on people’s faces when we turn up after an emergency. Just being there for people, helping them and listening to them can make such a difference.”

Liz Padmore, Chair of the British Red Cross, has been invited to attend the Coronation, and 22 volunteers from across the UK will be part of the Civilian Service Contingent.

In full ceremonial uniform, they will line the King’s procession route from south of Trafalgar Square along Whitehall.

Some volunteers have also worked across other teams, including Health and Safety and Independent Living.

British Red Cross Director for Wales Kate Griffiths paid tribute to all four volunteers.

She said: “We’re proud of these four exceptional volunteers. We’re delighted their great work is being recognised and know they’ll be excellent representatives of the Red Cross in Wales at the coronation.”
