A PLANNING application to turn an old restaurant into homes is among the latest to have been submitted to Flintshire Council.
The proposal is to turn the old Savoy Italian restaurant on Chester Street in Mold into seven cottages - which was the building's original usage. There are vacant existing Georgian style cottages to the rear of the building.
There would be internal alterations to facilitate the proposals, as well as re-roofing of the rear to allow adequate window depth to the first floor.
The building is Grade II listed, with the restaurant having closed its doors prior to the Covid pandemic.

Planning documents on behalf of the applicant state: "The external changes to the front, courtyard, elevation include only minor amendments for cleaning and repair.
"The clients wish to fully preserve the external character of the building which identifies this area of the market town and especially so due to its quaint and partially secluded location."
They add: "The building as an open plan restaurant is restrictive in terms of entry and egress for the number of customers it can cater for. To have its massing in the town without a viable use contributes negatively in the animated grouping of cafes, public houses etc. On this basis, in preserving the building and enhancing the character of the building, we are fully compliant.
"The decision to apply for conversion and loss of commercial venture has not been take lightly, and the choice is not made for cost efficiency, but for the best use of the building in its current state."
Other notable planning applications recently submitted to Flintshire Council are as follows:
- Demolition of existing dwelling at The Crest, Sandy Lane, Bagillt and construction of eight dwellings - three semi-detached pairs Semis and two detached.
- Erection of a new house to replace an old house destroyed by fire at Bryn Gwiog Cottage, Hendre.
