Children's Author of the Month
Guy Bass is an award-winning author whose children's books series include Stitch Head, Skeleton Keys, Spynosaur and Dinkin Dings. In 2010 Dinkin Dings and the Frightening Things won the Blue Peter Award for Most Fun Book with Pictures. Guy has also written plays for both adults and children. He has also previously been a theatre producer, illustrator, temp, gerbil whisperer and have acted his way out of several paper bags (his words)! As a child he spent many hours reading comics and hoping one day to become a superhero and spends his adulthood in more or less the same way. He now lives in London with my wife and Imaginary Friends! You can borrow all of these books from your local library.
Top tips for saving money
If you need to buy a new fridge, cooker, camera, printer, light bulb, phone and more, how will you know whether the model you're buying is better than the others? Are you getting value for money? Is the most expensive one better than a cheaper one? Why not check up in advance? Visit Wrexham Library to read a Which? report about the product you wish to buy and select a model based on the results of extensive tests. It's a good place to start and you could save yourself pounds.
Don't forget…
You will no longer be fined if your library items are late back, however you still need to renew your books if you are not able to return them on time, and if you've not returned them after 90 days then you will be billed a replacement cost of the item. You will still be able to renew your books twice if you cannot get in or you haven't finished with them and again we would encourage you to do this. If you have books which you have had for a while we would really appreciate their return. Please note, that your books will no longer be automatically renewed.
Book Review
Braver by Deborah Jenkins
We met Hazel who has never felt normal. She is struggling with OCD and anxiety, like many her way of coping is to isolate herself from others and stick to her rigid routines in order to survive each day. Hazel then bumps into Virginia, a church minister.
They slowly form an unlikely and yet vital friendship. Gradually Hazel begins to venture outside her comfort zone. Virginia is a church minister who has rebuilt her own life after a traumatic loss, and is the backbone of her community, caring for those in need and mentoring disadvantaged young people. Yet a shock accusation threatens to unravel everything she has worked for.
Will the new friendships rally round in Virginia's hour of need? This is an uplifting story of strength that can be drawn from forming new friendships and finding your community. Shan
