A WREXHAM cricket club has been bowled over by the generous sponsorship from a business in the area.

For a second time, Bersham Cricket Club will receive a donation from Arthurs Motor Group.

This will help the club set up All Stars Cricket, a programme dedicated to introducing children aged five to eight-years-old to cricket.

The programme will focus on the Wrexham area of Rhostyllen, and will bring a sense of community spirit with fun for the children.

This will develop new skills, the importance of team spirit and social skills, child development both mentally and physically, and improve self-esteem while allowing them to make new friends and enjoy the introduction to the sport.

Children taking part receive a bag of goodies and parents are encouraged to join in.

Club secretary Aled Edwards said: "As a group of volunteers, the efforts have been outstanding at Bersham Cricket Club, the pavilion and team have undergone a revival in recent years through these efforts to return the club to a successful team at the heart of local cricket community.

"The club celebrated 120th anniversary last year since its creation in 1902 by the local miners, to continue the playing of cricket and more so developing youth sides as in years gone by is our goal, and we are well on our way to reaching this goal.

"However, without the support and donations from local family run companies such as Arthurs, the improvements and reaching these goals would not be possible.

Arthurs has seen the value of having such an initiative available in the community of Rhostyllen, keeping children active and interested is vital for their development and Arthurs are keen to promote strategies that contribute to family life.
