A FOOTBALL club in Wrexham says they are 'exhausted' following ongoing efforts to combat vandalism.

FC Queen's Park currently has six youth age groups in addition to their first team, playing games at the dunks in Caia Park.

Approximately 120 children represent the club during matches each week, but games are getting harder to put on due to an ongoing battle with vandalism.

The club's youth secretary, Wendy Shone said that they are regularly having to cancel games due to pitches being torn up by motorbikes and cars.

She added: "We are in the heart of the community in one of the biggest underprivileged estates in north Wales.

"Our pitches provide a much-needed safe place for the youth and adults within this community.

"The Wrexham and district league work tirelessly to put together fixtures to enable these kids to just play their football and acts of vandalism like this cause us not to be able to fulfill those fixtures.

"This has a detrimental impact on the kids in this community on their social skills and mental health, for some of the kids here it’s a massive lifeline.

"It also affects on the club as a whole as we’re left to pay fines for unfulfilled fixtures, it makes my job as secretary a lot harder as I’m having to contact opponents to reschedule games which isn’t always doable

"As a club, we’ve exhausted every avenue and applied for much-needed funding to have our bottom pitch fenced off but hit a brick wall constantly.

"Our adult teams have a lot of upcoming important games such as cup finals and league finals so for our youth to have to use that pitch would have a massive impact on those games given all the wet weather we’ve had.

"I just hope that these individuals will stop and think how this selfish act which is a recurring issue is affecting the kids down here."
