THE LEAD singer of a hugely-popular Wrexham band is doing his bit to raise awareness of cancer, having overcome it himself.

Declan Swans have enjoyed fantastic success over the last two years, with their 'Always Sunny In Wrexham' hit even becoming a Wrexham matchday must at the Racecourse.

And, appearing on the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary earned the band some new fans from across the globe.

One tale in particular stood out for the Swans' in that series as singer Michael Hett opened up on his battle with cancer.

Michael, known as 'Scoot', told of how he went through chemotherapy after a tumour was discovered on his colon.

In a scene filmed in his home along with wife Wendy, he tells her, while drawing up a bucket list, that 'seeing Wrexham get promoted back to the football league' is at the top of that list.

Michael says he underwent chemotherapy between August and November of 2021.

He also revealed that his wife, Wendy - who also appears in the documentary - had also previously had a cancer battle (breast) of her own.

Now, having been given the all clear himself, he is doing his bit to raise awareness of cancer.

In collaboration with Bowel Cancer UK, Michael has written a poem.

You can watch a video of that here ...

The poem is as follows:

'Bowel Cancer's a nasty disease,

But with the skills and expertise

Of specialised teams and professional support,

Tumorous growths can be gallantly fought,

Awareness and early detection are key,

So what would the signs when they're diagnosed mean?

Unexplained weight loss and blood in the poo

A pain in the stomach, so what should you do?

Taking to Twitter to talk about the poem, Michael said: "2 years ago my world changed forever. I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Thankfully, following treatment, I have had the all clear.

"Sadly not everyone is as fortunate. I am working with bowel cancer uk to raise awareness. Please share my short poem!"

Bowel Cancer UK replied: "Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, we love the poem."
