A SPECIAL event was held recently to highlight the efforts of a Flintshire community champion.

In recognition for all that he does in the Mold area, Patrick Oliver was presented with a special certificate and badge.

That was done at a celebratory event organised by volunteers at Parkfields Community Centre in Mold and was attended by friends, family and many local residents.

Hannah Blythyn, MS for Delyn, said: “I was really pleased to be able to play my part in recognising the wonderful work that Patrick quietly gets on with that makes the community a nicer place for everyone.

"From picking up rubbish to cutting grass and clearing snow, Patrick is widely known for his good work. He doesn't wait to be asked to do things, he is just there to help and he asks for no reward.

"The nomination as a Community Champion is very well deserved and the fact that so many people came along to celebrate is testament to how highly regarded Patrick is in the local community. Thanks also to all at Parkfields Community Centre who arranged such a lovely get together.”

Councillor Tina Claydon, who nominated Patrick for the award added: “Walking around the area surrounding Parkfields Community Centre there is a high likelihood that you would see Patrick looking after the grounds at the centre, or you may find him helping people with their gardens or bins.

"He also helps out at the Clubhouse and St. David's Church. Patrick doesn't do these things for recognition but he deserves to be recognised as a Community Champion for all his work. I was pleased to nominate him.”

Hannah Blythyn MS first established the Community Champions initiative during the coronavirus pandemic to provide a little bit of recognition for those individuals, organisations and businesses who often go above and beyond to contribute to communities.
