Name and address of the business
Perfect Image Hairdressing
29 High Street, Coedpoeth, Wrexham LL11 3SB
How many staff do you have, and in what roles?
We have three staff members including myself - junior stylist Millie and senior stylist Molly head stylist salon owner. We also have two other team members, hairdresser Rachel and makeup artist Dionne.
When did you open?
I opened in 2017 in a smaller premises across the road from where I currently am now. I renovated and moved into a bigger premises in August 2021.
Why did you decide to open your own business?
I decided to open my own business because I am a very ambitious and self driven person, I wanted to create a space where everybody is welcome and felt comfortable having their hair done.
My drive in business is to always be the best I can be and I would like to think that reflects in my salon, it allows me to grow in my career and in the hairdressing industry.
I am also a mum to boys, so being self employed allows me to work my own hours, so I never have to miss out on any of their events, such as school events, sports days etc.. and I hope I can aspire them to follow their ambitions when they are older too.
Have you always been at this location?
I have always been located in Coedpoeth. I started off in a smaller salon just across the road to where I am located now. In 2021 I then outgrew the shop and needed somewhere bigger. I have continued to stay in Coedpoeth as we have free parking right behind our salon and it is a very easy commute for our customers, who come from a lot of areas outside of Wrexham.
Are you local to the area, did you grow up here?
I was born in Wrexham and have always lived here.
Tell us a bit about your salon/barbershop
I renovated my current salon in 2021, having somewhere that stood out and was different was important to me.
I designed the salon myself, I wanted the salon to have a bright, clean and up-to-date look, with a warm and inviting atmosphere.
A lot of customers have described the salon as something you would see in a big city with a luxury design. We are always getting complimented on the salon, people even just pop there head in to say how lovely it is. I am very proud to have such a beautiful place to work.
In 2022 we won second best new salon in the UK hair and beauty awards , I was absolutely blown away and would have been happy just to be in the top 50 with being against top salons in London and bigger cities!
Following on from our award we were asked to feature in magazines, one which distributed to the UK, Ireland and America.
We have now also been college Cambria's case study for the last two years to give advice and some insight to any students who feel they would like to own their own salon one day.
What services do you provide?
We provide all aspects of hairdressing. We specialise in balayage, extensions and bridal/event styling.
What is your hair/beauty background?
I started off in Wrexham training, where I spent 12 months completing my first year. I was then offered an apprenticeship at a local salon where I stayed for four years.
Then in 2016 I decided to go self employed and in 2017 I opened my first salon. I started with very few customers back in 2016 and now I am fully booked most of the time! I honestly feel so lucky to be in the situation I am but it has not been without its hard work.
Did the pandemic affect your business?
The pandemic was very difficult for all businesses. I used the time to impact my business positively and I attended online courses and learned new skills and improved my business knowledge, so when we finally were allowed to open I hit the ground running.
I would say the impact of the restrictions when we reopened affected us the most at the time of the pandemic, as we were in a smaller premises, so it was difficult to create restrictions but we managed and we got through it together.
Our customers were all amazing, understanding and cooperative and all our covid guidelines were in place.
What could set you apart from your competition?
Aside from my dedication and passion for my salon, Perfect Image is where everybody can be themselves, we believe we create a safe place for our clients who can relax and even sometimes talk about their troubles, with mental health being at its high we always make sure that everybody leaves feeling better about themselves.
We use top products within the salon, we offer a range of premium services and have often been told how lovely the salon atmosphere is.
We have currently put in place a pricing structure with our stylists, so hopefully we can suit everyone's budgets. Our main goal is to make sure our customers leave happy and impressed with our services and products.
