A MOLD teenager has become the highest ranked army cadet in North Wales.

Multi-talented, Matteo Molica-Franco has been appointed to the most senior rank of cadet, Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Clwyd, Mr Henry Fetherstonhaugh Esq. OBE FRAGS at the Lord Lieutenant Awards in Wrexham.

The promotion means the 16-year-old will now lead and give guidance to over 400 youngsters in the Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force (ACF).

Discussing Matteo's impressive promotion, The Lord-Lieutenant said: “I was delighted to be able to make this promotion to this talented young man”

Matteo from Mold and Buckley Detachment said he was thrilled with his new rank: “The promotion was a total surprise and I did not see it coming but though still in a state of shock, I was very pleased to receive this promotion.

"I am looking forward to supporting other cadets as RSM.”

Matteo has been a cadet for four and a half years and in addition to playing a key role in his detachment and company, he has represented Clwyd and Gwynedd in the Cadet Cambrian Patrol and shooting competitions.

Former Detachment Commander, Barrie Reid was also full of praise for the talented cadet: ”Matteo has always shown loyalty and commitment to both his Company and Detachment he is a well presented cadet on all occasions showing a maturity we wish all cadets would grow into.

"This appointment is a just reward for his hard work and commitment."

Company Staff Officer Alex Elliot added: “Matteo has been an exemplary cadet and has worked tirelessly during his time in cadets he has shown himself to be worthy and an excellent cadet and young person.

"He is an example of what can happen when you work hard. He is thoroughly deserving of this promotion.”
