Wrexham and Flintshire are full of hair and beauty salons, and barbershops, transforming, treating and pampering their customers so they shine from head to toe with confidence.
Our new feature - Meet the Salon/Barbershop Owner - gives business owners and managers the chance to shine a spotlight on their salon and showcase some of their best work.
If you would like to appear in our Meet the Owner feature, you can fill in our Q&A here or email claire.pierce@newsquest.co.uk
Here, 29-year-old owner and manager Mia Rogers, from Broughton, explains how they've created a sense of family at the salon.
Name and address of the business
Curl Up and Dye
4 Victoria Square, Brynford Street, Holywell CH8 7RD
How many staff do you have, and in what roles?
We currently have five members of staff, including myself - three stylists, an apprentice, and a Saturday girl.
When did you open?
The salon has been here for many years but I took over in August 2022.
Why did you decide to open your own business?
It's something I've always wanted to do, and I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to take on the salon where I did my training, which made it all the more special.
Are you local to the area, did you grow up here?
I am. I grew up in Holywell and went to primary school here. It's crazy to see how much the town has changed over the last 20 years.
Tell us a bit about your salon/barbershop
We are a small, close-knit team that think of each other as family rather than colleagues.
The salon itself isn't massive but its one of the things we love most about our space. It means we can easily connect with each other and our customers throughout the salon, and it's always nice seeing the clients chatting amongst themselves whilst having their hair done.
What services do you provide?
We provide all factors of hairdressing, from technical colour services to creative cutting and styling. I have recently started offering extensions services, which have already been a big hit.
A lot of our regular clients come weekly for a blow-dry and catch up.
What is your hair/beauty background?
I did my training here in Curl Up and Dye via an apprenticeship, and have worked in the salon for the last 11 years.
Alongside the training I received in salon, I also attended in-depth colour and cutting courses in Manchester to further my skills.
What could set you apart from your competitors?
In recent years it has become even more apparent how important it is to be sustainable, and when taking over the salon that was something I really wanted to consider.
Our range of colours are vegan, cruelty-free and the packaging is fully recyclable. Not only is the colour we use better for the planet but also better for our clients' hair, as it is infused with several plant-based ingredients which offer many benefits.
The styling products and haircare we use and stock are also vegan, sulphate-free and responsibly sourced.
We pride ourselves on doing what we can in the industry to make a difference as the hair and beauty trade in general is a massive contributor to environmental issues.
Why do loyal customers return?
We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic customer base, and we appreciate each and every one of our clients.
We do everything we can to make people feel comfortable, and to ensure they enjoy the time they spend in our salon.
Our clients are our entire business after all, and we aim to make sure that they are happy with the services we provide.
If they leave our salon with a smile on their face and a boost of confidence then we've done our part!
What's next for you and the salon?
I have lots of plans for the future of Curl Up and Dye but my main focus will always be to keep the community spirit we have built in the salon, and never lose my love of the job.
What are your opening hours?
Tuesday to Friday 9am-5.30pm and Saturday 8.30am to 3.30pm
